So Elyssa had a softball game last week and is now consistently playing second base. She struggles a little because you have to remember so much, but she is doing good. She had a solid hit against a really tough team and continues to improve. She is consistently practicing. She hits golfballs onto the course until it gets dark. Elyssa has such drive and determination, yet she is so quiet around her coaches. Isaac doesn't have that kind of drive at all, yet his coaches are on him all the time about how much he talks.
This past Tuesday Elyssa got to play in front of her grandpa Dave and Uncle Dick. She got a solid hit and an RBI to tie the game. Yet sadly they lost by 1 run. They are no longer undefeated. But still it was nice to have the family there to see her and her team play.
Elyssa also had school tryouts. Sixty girls showed up to try for the 15 or so spots they have. Elyssa didn't make the first cut. She was pretty upset because she felt like girls she is better than made the first cut. I asked her if she talked to the coach about it, but he didn't come to school that day. Man, the mom in me wanted to claw his eyes out! How can you post the cuts and then not even show up the next day. Coward!
You will be happy to know that I kept my composure and didn't say anything bad about the coach and tried to be very positive. Although, I was totally thinking he was a jerk. I told Lyssa that next year would be another time to try out and she could still play fall ball.
Honestly though, I do think people tend to discount her small size. They just have no idea how powerful she is! I'm confident she will make the team next year and then they will be sorry that they didn't pick her this year!
